3ArabTV is an Android app that provides you access to a wide range of streamed and live content.

The 3ArabTV app is aimed at Arab audiences and in particular those viewers who enjoy soap operas and various other serials. That is not to say soap operas is all you will find. There are movies too, but those serials are clearly the focus. Additionally, the content available is not limited to Saudi Arabia. While you will find many Saudi serials, you will find soap operas from Egypt, Greece, Korea and so on.

Considering how much international content there is, we were impressed with how much of it—most in fact—had Arab subtitles when required. If a show was in English or Spanish, for instance, you can almost count on the appropriate subtitles being enabled by default. Since this is an app aimed at that particular demographic, this is a good feature that eases the user experience in a way many such apps do not.

The app has an integrated search mechanism. Simply enter your query in the provided textbox and click the magnifying glass. The search is fast and fairly effective. There are few options available for more complex queries, however. In addition, query results can be quite long, and there is no way to pare them down. You simply have to scroll through them. You can bookmark items, however, and that is convenient when you have to stop watching and want to resume easily later.

The focus here is on content that has already aired and can be streamed. If you are looking for a serial like Al Assouf—Homesick in English—you will easily find every episode organized by its appropriate season. When you complete an episode, the app will correctly move on to the next one even when that means starting the new episode. Bookmarks sometimes do not upgrade correctly, however.

There are live television channels, but we found these to be a bit hit and miss. If your plan is to use this app to watch your favorite serial as the newest episode airs, you may find it too unreliable. If, on the other hand, you just want to channel surf and come across something interesting, it works well enough.

Quality seemed to be pretty good and consistent in most cases up to about 720p. There are usually lower resolutions available, which is nice when watching on your phone. Do not expect 1080p or anything more ambitious. We also found the live content to be a little less reliable.

The app does have limited language support. The developer promotes the app as in English, but we did not find any option to switch over. The user interface is in Arabic by default. All text returned in queries is in Arabic, and we did not come across any subtitles in languages other than Arabic.
